Nautilus Fitness, one of the most recognized names in home fitness, faced a challenge that wasn’t just technical, but strategic. As the fitness industry leaned further into connected experiences, Nautilus needed to modernize how it brought new customers into its ecosystem. With multiple devices, legacy systems, and promotional offers in play, the onboarding flow had grown fragmented. The goal was clear: build a seamless, future-ready experience that could serve new users while respecting the commitments made to existing ones.

Nautilus wasn’t struggling to acquire users, it faced challenges getting them connected across platforms and devices. The existing process had friction points: account creation needed improvement, setup wasn't consistent across devices, and syncing with third-party fitness apps was a challenge. Outdated systems that supported legacy subscriptions created edge cases that strained user experience.
This was mostly structural UX challenge, requiring a deep dive into how users entered, navigated, and ultimately adopted the Nautilus platform.
Collaborative discovery meetings with key Nautilus stakeholders, from marketing and engineering to customer support, helped map the existing flows and identify bottlenecks. User journey mapping surfaced pain points and inconsistencies between the browser, mobile app, and device experiences.
Design exploration, starting with interactive wireframes, Progressed into high-fidelity prototypes. Designs evolved and were tested against real use cases, allowing design and development teams to surface technical constraints early in the process. Special attention was paid to how users encountered promotional offers and subscription options, ensuring clarity without sacrificing conversion.
Regular check-ins kept the momentum. This was a fast-moving team with high expectations, and transparency was essential.
The team delivered a streamlined, multi-platform onboarding flows that accounted for new customers, returning users, and legacy subscribers. Each flow was built to feel native, no matter the device.
A modular architecture allowed the onboarding experience to scale with future product releases while keeping promotional offers dynamically integrated. Rather than hard-coding offer logic, a flexible framework was built to accommodate regional campaigns and limited-time incentives.
Support for legacy accounts was embedded. Existing customers were automatically recognized based on user data, and migrated into flows without losing access or benefits. This turned a potential liability into a trust-building moment.
On the visual side, the new interface kept close to brand standards. Typography, iconography, and tone were all optimized for ease and confidence.
The onboarding experience that we delivered brought measurable gains across core KPIs. Conversion improved significantly, while the number of support tickets related to setup dropped sharply. Legacy subscribers reported smoother re-entry into the platform and a more intuitive workflow.
Nautilus gained a framework that could evolve. Seasonal campaigns could now launch without friction, and new products could plug into the existing ecosystem without a complete redesign.
The project stood as proof that smart UX, when combined with cross-functional collaboration and technical foresight, can turn complexity into competitive advantage.
